CPL editor makes national awards shortlist

Alex Smith, editor of leading membership magazine CIBSE Journal, has been shortlisted in this years’ national Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC) awards.

CIBSE Journal is the monthly magazine for the 18,000-plus members of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), and is respected as the leading title in its sector.

Alex, working closely with deputy editor Liza Young and the communications team at CIBSE, has developed the content strategy to provide readers with greater depth on key industry topics such as building energy performance and health and wellbeing.

Other major themes covered in the past 12 months include analysis of the emergence of battery storage and the impact of electric vehicles on city infrastructure. The Journal reinforces CIBSE’s strategy to promote inclusiveness and diversity in building services, as well as to attract young people to the industry.

Alex and his team have earned considerable praise for their coverage since last year’s Grenfell Tower fire – a tragedy that has had huge ramifications for the sector. Alex dealt with the topic with great sensitivity and has devoted considerable resource over the past year to highlighting best practice and the changes necessary in the industry to prevent such a disaster from ever happening again.
