When coronavirus first broke out, CPL charity Wintercomfort needed extra support to maintain key services during the impending lockdown.
So CPL worked with Wintercomfort to develop an emergency Covid-19 appeal to help the charity overcome the unexpected loss of income.
Covid-19 not only forced the closure of Wintercomfort’s base in Cambridge, but meant its highly successful social enterprises, Overstream Clean and FoodforFood, had to cease trading.
This raised concerns for the future of Wintercomfort’s much-needed work supporting homeless and vulnerably housed people.
A CPL team worked with Wintercomfort to plan, write, design, print and promote the emergency appeal within a few days.
Once launched, the appeal helped raise almost £20,000, allowing Wintercomfort to continue its work in the field while its main building was closed.
The appeal also raised Wintercomfort’s profile in the public domain and local media. Most importantly, it raised awareness of the realities of homelessness during a global pandemic.
Simon Pickering, fundraising and communications manager for Wintercomfort, said: “Without the brilliant support from the whole CPL team our emergency appeal would not have had so much impact.
“During the pandemic, we have faced some real difficulties and supported a huge number of homeless and vulnerably housed individuals.
“The team at CPL responded very fast, quickly understood our priorities and were hugely committed to supporting us with this appeal. For that, and for all CPL’s support, we are so grateful.''
Mike Sewell, managing director at CPL, added: “It is hugely gratifying to see the expertise and can-do attitude of our team members having such a positive impact for Wintercomfort. We are proud to have Wintercomfort as one of our official charities because their team does so much important work in our city.”
Along with the Batemans Trust, Wintercomfort is one of two charities officially supported by CPL, via a mix of pro bono, reduced fee and fundraising models. Read more about CPL’s support for Wintercomfort:
