Company get-together is icing on the cake
Employees from CPL celebrated the agency’s 25th anniversary in style this week.
Before Covid, the agency had always prided itself on holding regular social events, but these have hardly been possible in the past 18 months.
However, the vast majority of the agency’s 50 employees – plus some key freelancers – enjoyed a get-together in a pub garden by the river near CPL’s Cambridge office.
And it was a double celebration, as it was also an opportunity to mark the fact that the company was originally incorporated 25 years ago, back in 1996.
Jonathan Wilson, one of the founding partners, was present for the occasion, which saw managing director Mike Sewell (below right) cutting a cake crafted by employee and talented baker Maia Parratt (left).
In a speech to colleagues, Mike said: “Jonathan will tell you that when he and Mark set up CPL they vowed not to have any employees. Well… looking around and seeing all of you here today, it’s fair to conclude that that plan didn’t go very well!”
Mike said the company had always focused on combining quality content with excellent customer service.
“Okay, it wasn’t called ‘content’ back in 1996, but CPL’s continuing success continues to be founded on those two principles.”
The company had come a long, long way over the past 25 years, Mike said. “When I think about the breadth of services we offer... or the range of skills and expertise... or the technology we embrace... or the fact we now employ 53 people, plus plenty of freelancers… I realise how far we have come.”
He told employees that things had never changed faster during those 25 years than in the past 18 months or so because of Covid. “Your positivity, resilience, flexibility and willingness to focus on delivering against CPL’s principles of excellent customer service alongside high-quality work has shone through. I am incredibly grateful to you and proud of you all.”
